Amankora Punakha: Your Farmhouse Sanctuary
Experience the most characterful, of all Amankora lodges in Bhutan
Amankora Punakha is an intimate lodge converted from an old royal farmhouse. It offers pretty views over orchards, rice paddies, and the Mo Chhu River. With a dramatic arrival, you will reach the entrance of the lodge on foot, crossing a suspension bridge decorated with colourful prayer flags. The lodge is a ten-minute drive from the 17th-century Punakha Dzong, the country's most striking fortress.
Lodge Style and Character
The original farmhouse is decorated with vegetable-dye wall paintings and furnished with clean-lined contemporary pieces. At night, the courtyard, shaded by a Chinese cherry tree, is set for outdoor dining with fire and lamps. Your suite is located in one of three modern, packed-earth villas in the orchard.

Your Private Suite

There are eight open-plan, wooden-clad suites. Choose an upstairs room for the best views. All suites are designed identically to create a sense of home, with a king-sized bed, armchairs, and a daybed. The bathroom has two well-lit basins, a large central bathtub, and a separate rain shower. A ‘bukhari’ wood-burning stove is laid for you daily. Note that Wi-Fi can be patchy in the rooms.
The food at Amankora Punakha is sensational. An Argentinian chef and a team of local sous chefs create fresh Western and finely spiced Bhutanese dishes. Meals are served outdoors or at large, communal tables inside the farmhouse. Facilities include a tea pavilion for cooking classes and a spa with a yoga room, two treatment rooms, and a steam room. The staff is happy to please.
